Potato, Onion & Cheese Fritters

Ingredients

  • 3 medium potatoes

  • 1 onion, sliced or finely chopped

  • 1 carrot, grated

  • 5 cloves garlic, minced

  • 100 g cheese, grated

  • A bunch of spring onions, chopped

  • 1 egg

  • Salt, to taste

  • 3 tbsp flour

  • Sunflower oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potatoes

    • Peel and grate the potatoes.

    • Place them in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out the excess liquid (this helps them crisp up).

  2. Mix the batter

    • In a large bowl, combine grated potatoes, onion, carrot, garlic, cheese, spring onions, and salt.

    • Add the egg and flour, mixing until everything binds together into a thick batter.

  3. Heat the oil

    • Pour sunflower oil into a frying pan (about ½ cm deep) and heat on medium.

  4. Shape & fry

    • Scoop spoonfuls of the mixture, flatten slightly into patties, and place gently in the hot oil.

    • Fry for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.

  5. Drain & serve

    • Transfer fritters to a plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.

    • Serve hot with sour cream, yogurt dip, or even ketchup for a homestyle touch.
