Penne Arrabbiata Pasta

Penne Arrabbiata Pasta

Ingredients
•400g penne pasta
•2 tablespoons olive oil
•3 cloves garlic, minced
•1 medium onion, finely chopped
•1 can (400g) diced tomatoes
•1/2 cup heavy cream (optional for creamy sauce)
•1 teaspoon dried oregano
•1 teaspoon dried basil
•1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
•Salt and pepper, to taste
•1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus extra for garnish)
•Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)
Step-by-Step Recipe
Step 1: Cook the Pasta
1.Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
2.Add the penne pasta and cook according to the package instructions (typically 9-11 minutes) until al dente.
3.Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water and then drain the pasta. Set aside.
Step 2: Prepare the Sauce
1.Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
2.Add the minced garlic and chopped onion. Sauté until the onion is soft and translucent (about 3-4 minutes).
3.Stir in the diced tomatoes, dried oregano, basil, and chili flakes (if using). Simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 3: Make it Creamy (Optional)
1.If you prefer a creamy sauce, reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream.
2.Let it cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine.
Step 4: Combine Pasta and Sauce
1.Add the cooked penne pasta to the skillet with the sauce.
2.Toss everything together to ensure the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce.
3.If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of the reserved pasta water to adjust the consistency.
Step 5: Season and Serve
1.Season with salt and pepper to taste.
2.Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top and gently toss.
3.Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves and extra Parmesan cheese, if desired.
Enjoy your delicious penne pasta!
