Miracle Juice
This juice is packed with nutrients and is a great way to incorporate more vegetables and fruits into your diet.
Yields: Approximately 1-2 servings (depending on the size of your produce and juicer) Prep time: 10-15 minutes
Ingredients:
- 5 medium carrots
- 8 ribs of celery
- 1 medium cucumber
- 1 medium beetroot
- 1/4 medium lemon (about 1-2 wedges)
- 1-inch piece of fresh ginger
Equipment:
- Juicer (centrifugal or masticating)
- Cutting board
- Knife
- Measuring cups (optional, for juice yield)
- Glass for serving
Instructions:
- Prepare the Carrots: Wash the carrots thoroughly. You can peel them if you prefer, but it’s not strictly necessary, especially if they are organic. Trim both ends.
- Prepare the Celery: Wash the celery ribs well, ensuring no dirt is left. You can trim the ends.
- Prepare the Cucumber: Wash the cucumber thoroughly. You can leave the skin on for more nutrients, or peel it if you prefer. Trim the ends.
- Prepare the Beetroot: Wash the beetroot well. It’s recommended to peel the beetroot, as the skin can be quite tough and sometimes bitter. Cut off the top and bottom.
- Prepare the Lemon: Wash the lemon. You’ll only need about 1/4 of a medium lemon. You can either peel it and remove any seeds, or if your juicer can handle it, you can juice it with the peel on (though some people find the peel adds bitterness). Removing the seeds is important to avoid a bitter taste.
- Prepare the Ginger: Wash the ginger root. You can peel it using a spoon or a peeler, or if it’s young ginger with thin skin, you can leave the skin on. Slice it into smaller pieces if necessary to fit your juicer’s chute.
- Juice All Ingredients: One by one, feed all the prepared ingredients into your juicer. Start with the softer ingredients and alternate with harder ones for better juicing efficiency.
- Serve Immediately: Pour the freshly made “Miracle Juice” into a glass. It’s best to drink it immediately to get the maximum nutritional benefits.
Tips and Variations:
- Organic Produce: Whenever possible, use organic fruits and vegetables to minimize pesticide exposure.
- Adjust Sweetness/Tartness: If you find the juice too earthy, you can add a bit more lemon. If you prefer it sweeter, you can add an extra carrot or a small apple (not listed in the original recipe, but a common juicing addition).
- Ginger Kick: If you love ginger, feel free to add a larger piece for a stronger flavor and more health benefits.
- Storage: While best consumed fresh, if you have any leftover juice, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. The nutritional content may decrease over time.
- Pulp: Don’t discard the pulp! You can use it in composting, or for baking (e.g., carrot pulp muffins) if the ingredients are suitable.
