Classic Lasagna Recipe
Ingredients
For the Meat Sauce:
•1 pound (450g) ground beef or Italian sausage
•1 small onion, finely chopped
•2 garlic cloves, minced
•1 jar (24 oz/680g) marinara sauce or tomato sauce
•1 teaspoon dried basil
•1 teaspoon dried oregano
•Salt and pepper to taste
For the Ricotta Mixture:
•2 cups (450g) ricotta cheese
•1 large egg
•1/2 cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese
•1 teaspoon dried parsley
For the Layers:
•12 lasagna noodles (cooked according to package instructions)
•2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese
•1/2 cup (50g) additional grated Parmesan cheese
Step-by-Step Recipe
Step 1: Prepare the Meat Sauce
1.In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
2.Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened.
3.Stir in the marinara sauce, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer on low heat for 10-15 minutes.
Step 2: Prepare the Ricotta Mixture
1.In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, and dried parsley. Mix until smooth.
Step 3: Cook the Lasagna Noodles
1.Cook the lasagna noodles in boiling salted water according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Step 4: Assemble the Lasagna
1.Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2.In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom.
3.Place 3-4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, slightly overlapping them.
4.Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by 1/3 of the meat sauce.
5.Sprinkle 1/3 of the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
6.Repeat the layers (noodles, ricotta, sauce, mozzarella) two more times, ending with mozzarella and an extra sprinkle of Parmesan on the top layer.
Step 5: Bake the Lasagna
1.Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil (to prevent the cheese from burning).
2.Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
3.Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
