¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
½ cup vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water (or hot coffee for richer flavor)
Chocolate Frosting:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3½ cups powdered sugar
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
½ tsp salt
2 tsp vanilla extract
¼ cup heavy cream (more if needed)
Instructions
Preheat Oven:
Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans, or line with parchment paper.

Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin).
Bake:
Divide batter evenly between pans. Bake 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool in pans 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make Frosting:
Beat butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar, cocoa, and salt; mix on low until combined.
Beat in vanilla and cream until smooth and fluffy, adding more cream if needed.
Assemble Cake:
Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread with frosting. Top with second layer and frost the top and sides.
Tip: For extra decadence, sprinkle chocolate shavings or drizzle melted chocolate over the finished cake.
