Ingredients:

3 cups all-purpose flour (360g)

2 tbsp butter (softened)

7g baker’s yeast (1 packet, about 2¼ tsp)

5 tbsp sugar

1 cup warm milk (240ml)

1 large egg
-
½ tsp salt

Oil (for frying)

Sugar or glaze (for coating)
Instructions:

Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, mix warm milk, sugar (1 tbsp from the total), and yeast.

Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.

Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, remaining sugar, and butter.

Add the yeast mixture and the egg.

Mix until a soft dough forms.

Knead
-
Transfer the dough to a floured surface.

Knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours (until doubled in size).

Shape the Doughnuts

Punch down the risen dough.

Roll out to about ½ inch thick.

Use a round cutter (or glass) and a small cutter for the center hole.

Place shaped doughnuts on a tray lined with parchment.

Second Rise

Cover and let rest for 30 minutes until slightly puffy.

Fry
-
Heat oil in a deep pan (about 170°C / 340°F).

Fry doughnuts in batches, 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown.

Drain on paper towels.

Coat & Serve
-
While still warm, roll in sugar OR dip in glaze/chocolate.
