Description
This casserole layers ground beef, thinly sliced potatoes, onions, and a creamy sauce, baked until bubbly and golden. It’s simple comfort food, perfect for weeknights or make-ahead meals.

1 lb (450 g) ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
3–4 medium russet potatoes, peeled & thinly sliced
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
1 cup milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)
2 tbsp butter (optional, for greasing and extra flavor)
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp paprika
Salt & pepper, to taste
Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
Cook beef: In a skillet, brown the ground beef with chopped onion until no longer pink. Drain excess fat. Season with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Prepare sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
Layer casserole:
Place a layer of sliced potatoes on the bottom of the dish.
Spread half of the cooked beef mixture on top.
Pour some of the soup mixture over.
Repeat layers until ingredients are used up, finishing with soup mixture on top.
Cover & bake: Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour.
Add cheese (optional): Remove foil, sprinkle cheddar cheese on top, and bake uncovered for another 10–15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Serve: Let cool for 5 minutes, garnish with parsley, and serve warm.
