Classic Hot Fudge Sundae Recipe
This recipe is for a single serving, so you can easily scale it up for more people.
Ingredients:
- 3 scoops of your favorite chocolate ice cream
- Hot fudge sauce (homemade or store-bought)
- Whipped cream (from a can or homemade)
- Maraschino cherries
- Fresh strawberries, sliced
- A classic sundae glass or bowl
Instructions:
- Prepare your ingredients: Make sure your hot fudge sauce is warm and pourable. If you’re using a jar, you can warm it in a microwave-safe bowl in 15-20 second intervals, stirring in between, until it reaches the desired consistency.
- Scoop the ice cream: Place three scoops of chocolate ice cream into your sundae glass or bowl.
- Add the hot fudge: Generously drizzle the warm hot fudge sauce over the ice cream scoops. The sauce should cascade down the sides of the scoops and pool at the bottom of the glass.
- Top with whipped cream: Swirl a generous amount of whipped cream on top of the scoops.
- Add the cherries: Place one or two maraschino cherries on top of the whipped cream. You can also add a few more around the base of the sundae.
- Garnish with strawberries: Arrange the sliced fresh strawberries around the ice cream scoops, either standing them up or placing them on the sides of the glass.
Tips and Variations:
- For the hot fudge sauce: For an extra-rich sauce, you can make your own. A simple recipe involves combining cocoa powder, sugar, butter, and milk or heavy cream in a saucepan and heating until it thickens.
- Other toppings: Feel free to add other toppings like chopped nuts (peanuts, walnuts, or pecans), sprinkles, or even a drizzle of caramel sauce.
- Different flavors: You can easily swap out the chocolate ice cream for vanilla, strawberry, or a combination of flavors.
- The base: To make the sundae even more decadent, you can place a brownie, a slice of pound cake, or a banana (for a classic banana split) at the bottom of the glass before adding the ice cream.
