Classic Doughnut Balls Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour

  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg (optional, for flavor)

  • 2 tbsp butter (softened)

  • ¾ cup (180 ml) milk

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Oil for deep frying (vegetable or canola oil)

  • Extra sugar or powdered sugar (for coating)

Instructions:

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.

  2. Add Wet Ingredients
Stir in softened butter, then add milk, egg, and vanilla. Mix until you get a smooth, thick batter (slightly sticky).

  3. Heat Oil
Pour oil into a deep pan (about 2–3 inches deep). Heat to 170–180°C (340–350°F).

  4. Shape Doughnut Balls
Use a spoon or small ice cream scoop to drop batter into the hot oil. Fry in batches (don’t overcrowd).

  5. Fry Until Golden
Cook for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and puffed. Remove with a slotted spoon.

  6. Coat
Roll warm doughnut balls in sugar or dust with powdered sugar.

Variations:

  • Cinnamon Sugar – Mix ½ cup sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon, roll doughnut balls in it.

  • Glazed – Dip warm doughnut balls in a simple glaze (1 cup powdered sugar + 2 tbsp milk).

  • Jam Filled – Inject jam or Nutella inside after frying with a piping bag.

  • Chocolate Coated – Dip in melted chocolate and sprinkle with nuts or sprinkles.
