Classic Caprese Salad Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 large ripe tomatoes, sliced ¼-inch thick

  • 1 lb (450 g) fresh mozzarella, sliced ¼-inch thick

  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves

  • 2–3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • 1–2 Tbsp balsamic glaze (optional but highly recommended)

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste


Instructions

  1. Slice the Tomatoes and Mozzarella
    – Cut both into even ¼-inch thick slices for uniform layering.

  2. Arrange on a Platter
    – On a large serving plate, alternate slices of tomato, mozzarella, and basil leaves.
    – Slightly overlap in a circular or linear pattern for visual appeal.

  3. Season
    – Drizzle generously with olive oil and balsamic glaze.
    – Sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

  4. Serve Immediately
    – Best enjoyed at room temperature for full flavor.


Tips

  • Fresh is best – This salad depends entirely on the quality of your ingredients.

  • DIY balsamic glaze – Simmer balsamic vinegar on low heat until it reduces and thickens (about 10 minutes).
