Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.

In a bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Mix in vanilla. Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk, starting and ending with flour.

Divide batter between pans, bake 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
