Baked Spaghetti Casserole
Ingredients:
200g (7 oz) spaghetti (or any pasta)
300g (10 oz) ground beef (or ground turkey/chicken)
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cups marinara sauce (or your favorite pasta sauce)
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
For the creamy sauce:
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
Salt and pepper, to taste
Nutmeg (optional, a pinch)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Prepare the meat sauce:
Heat olive oil in a skillet.
Add chopped onions and cook until soft.
Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning, and cook until browned.
Stir in marinara sauce and simmer for 5–10 minutes.
Make the creamy sauce (béchamel):
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
Simmer until thickened.
Add shredded mozzarella, season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg if desired.
Assemble the casseroles:
In small oven-safe dishes (or one big baking dish), layer:
A scoop of meat sauce,
A handful of cooked spaghetti,
More meat sauce,
Another layer of spaghetti.
Pour the creamy sauce generously over the top.
Top with cheese:
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and parmesan on top.
Bake:
Bake uncovered for about 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
