☕ Soft Coffee-Time Bread Rolls

Pillowy, slightly sweet rolls — perfect for dipping in coffee or enjoying with butter & jam.


Ingredients (makes 10–12 rolls)

For the Dough:

  • 3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)

  • ¼ cup (50g) sugar

  • 1 packet (7g) instant yeast

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 cup (240ml) warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)

  • 1 large egg (room temperature)

  • 3 tbsp (45g) unsalted butter, softened

For Brushing:

  • 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (egg wash)

  • Optional: sesame seeds or sugar crystals for topping


Instructions

1️⃣ Activate & Mix

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.

  2. Add egg and softened butter. Mix until combined.


2️⃣ Make the Dough

  1. Add flour and salt gradually, mixing with a wooden spoon or dough hook until a shaggy dough forms.

  2. Knead for 8–10 minutes (by hand) or 5–6 minutes (mixer) until smooth and elastic.


3️⃣ First Rise

  1. Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.


4️⃣ Shape the Rolls

  1. Punch down the dough, then divide into 10–12 equal pieces.

  2. Shape into smooth balls and arrange on a lined baking tray, leaving space between them.


5️⃣ Second Rise

  1. Cover loosely with a towel and let rest for 30–40 minutes until puffy.

6️⃣ Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Brush rolls with egg wash and sprinkle toppings if desired.

  3. Bake 15–18 minutes or until golden brown.


7️⃣ Serve

Let cool slightly before serving. Best enjoyed warm with coffee ☕.


Tips:

  • For extra softness, brush baked rolls with melted butter while still warm.

  • Add vanilla or cinnamon to the dough for a bakery-style aroma.
