Mediterranean Greek Chicken Gyros Recipe :
Ingredients :
For the Chicken Marinade
1 ½ lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs (or breasts)
3 tablespoons olive oil
Juice of 1 lemon
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
For the Tzatziki Sauce
1 cup Greek yogurt
½ cucumber, grated and excess water squeezed out
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
Salt and pepper, to taste
For Assembly
4–6 warm pita or flatbreads
1 cup shredded lettuce
1 cup diced tomatoes
½ red onion, thinly sliced
½ cup crumbled feta cheese (optional)
Instructions :
Marinate the Chicken
In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Add chicken and coat well.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (up to overnight for best flavor).
Cook the Chicken
Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat.
Cook chicken for 5–6 minutes per side, until golden and fully cooked (internal temp 165°F / 74°C).
Let rest for a few minutes, then slice into strips.
Make the Tzatziki
Mix together Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, dill, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
Chill until ready to use.
Assemble the Gyros
Warm pita bread.
Layer with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, chicken slices, and a spoonful of tzatziki.
Sprinkle with feta if desired.
Fold and serve warm.
