This hearty casserole brings together the rich flavors of seasoned ground beef, tender onions, and soft cabbage layered with fluffy rice and finished with gooey cheddar cheese. It’s a warm, satisfying dish that’s perfect for busy evenings or family-style dinners.


 Ingredients

Ingredient Amount & Notes
Ground beef 1 pound
Medium onion 1, chopped
Cabbage 3 cups, chopped
Diced tomatoes 1 can (14.5 oz), undrained
Cooked rice 1 cup
Garlic powder 1 teaspoon
Salt 1 teaspoon
Black pepper ½ teaspoon
Cheddar cheese 1 cup, shredded
Beef broth ½ cup

‍ Instructions

1. Preheat oven & prepare dish
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Cook beef & onions
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat until the meat is browned and the onion is soft.

3. Season the mixture
Drain off any extra grease. Stir in garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

4. Layer the ingredients

  • Add half of the chopped cabbage to the bottom of your baking dish.
  • Spoon the beef and onion mixture evenly on top.
  • Sprinkle the cooked rice over the beef layer.
  • Pour in the diced tomatoes (with juice) over the rice.
  • Finish by layering the rest of the cabbage on top.

5. Add broth
Slowly pour the beef broth over the entire layered casserole.

6. Cover and bake
Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 45 minutes.

7. Add cheese & finish baking
Remove the foil, sprinkle the shredded cheddar over the top, and return to the oven for another 10–15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

8. Cool slightly & serve
Let the casserole rest for a few minutes after baking before slicing and serving.
