Homemade Fried Mozzarella Sticks

Homemade Fried Mozzarella Sticks
Ingredients
12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs (or plain + 1 tsp Italian seasoning)
½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
½ teaspoon paprika (optional)
Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut)
Marinara sauce (for dipping)
Instructions
Step 1: Prep Cheese
Cut mozzarella sticks in half (for shorter sticks, optional).
Freeze for at least 1 hour—this prevents cheese from melting out too quickly when frying.
Step 2: Set Up Breading Station
Place flour in one shallow dish.
In another bowl, whisk eggs with milk.
In a third bowl, mix breadcrumbs with garlic powder and paprika (if using).
Step 3: Bread the Cheese
Roll each frozen cheese stick in flour (shake off excess).
Dip into egg wash, then coat in breadcrumbs.
Repeat egg + breadcrumb step twice for extra crispy coating.
Place breaded sticks on a tray and freeze again for 30 minutes.
Step 4: Fry
Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Fry mozzarella sticks in small batches for 1–2 minutes, until golden brown.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Step 5: Serve
Serve immediately with warm marinara or ranch dipping sauce.
