Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups heavy cream

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 100g (3.5 oz) dark chocolate, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt

Optional Toppings:

  • Chocolate shavings (as in the photo)

  • Chocolate chips or chunks

  • Crushed nuts or cookie pieces


Instructions:

  1. Heat the Base:

    • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.

    • Slowly whisk in the milk until smooth.

    • Add the chopped dark chocolate and stir constantly until melted and smooth (do not boil).

  2. Add Cream and Vanilla:

    • Remove from heat.

    • Stir in the heavy cream and vanilla extract.

    • Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or until very cold (overnight is best).

  3. Churn:

    • Pour the chilled mixture into your ice cream maker.

    • Churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions (usually about 20–25 minutes).

  4. Freeze:

    • Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container.

    • Freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.

  5. Serve:

    • Scoop into bowls and top with chocolate shavings or your favorite mix-ins.
