Quick to prepare and versatile, it’s perfect for any occasion, providing a delicious snack or pastry option .
Ingredients for the dough:
- 600 g wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 50 ml of vegetable oil
- 350 ml of boiling water
Ingredients for the filling:
-
- 500 g ground beef
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon tomato sauce – optional
- 1 chopped tomato
- ½ chopped red bell pepper
- ½ chopped green pepper
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 50 ml vegetable oil
- Paprika to taste
- Green herbs of your choice to taste (cilantro, parsley and/or chives)
How to prepare the dough:
In a bowl (or basin) place the wheat flour, add the salt, vegetable oil and boiling water and mix well with a fork (or spoon).
Then, once the ingredients are incorporated, knead with your hands until you have a firm, smooth dough – similar to bread dough.
Place the dough inside a plastic bag and let it rest for 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare the filling, following the steps below.
How to prepare the filling:
Heat the oil in a frying pan (or pot) and sauté the onion until translucent.
Add the tomato sauce – mix – and then add the ground beef to sauté until it loses its red color and takes on a cooked tone.
Add the chopped tomatoes and peppers, season with salt and paprika, and cook for a few more minutes.
Finish with the parsley and let it cool.
Recipe completion:
Take the dough that was left to rest, cut it in half, and then divide it into 10 equal-sized pieces.
Now, shape these 10 pieces into balls, place them on a plate, cover with a plastic bag, and let them rest for another 20 minutes.
After this time, sprinkle wheat flour on a table (or countertop) and open these balls with a rolling pin.
Make 10 very thin discs of equal size.
Tip: If you don’t have a rolling pin, use a glass bottle or cylindrical object.
Place the filling of your choice on a disc of dough, moisten the edges with water, place another disc on top and press the edges with your fingers to close.
If you know how, fold the edges like a pizza – but if you don’t know how, use a fork to seal the edges well, like a pastry.
Fry in hot oil until evenly browned on both sides and serve immediately.
Suggestion: you can season the filling with your favorite seasonings and you can also replace the ground beef with shredded chicken.
