Ingredients
For the Cake:
4 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ cup vegetable oil
½ cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Custard Cream Filling:
3 cups whole milk
½ cup granulated sugar
4 tbsp cornstarch
4 large egg yolks
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp unsalted butter
For Garnish:
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
2. In a mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add oil, milk, and vanilla, then mix well.
3. Sift flour with baking powder and fold into the wet mixture until smooth.
4. Pour half the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 12–15 minutes, just until set. Remove and let cool slightly.
5. Meanwhile, prepare the custard cream: In a saucepan, whisk together milk, sugar, egg yolks, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly until thickened. Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla, then let cool slightly.
6. Spread the custard evenly over the first cake layer.
7. Pour the remaining cake batter over the custard, spreading carefully to cover.
8. Bake again for 20–25 minutes, until the top is golden brown and set.
9. Allow to cool completely before slicing.
10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
