Creamy Tropical Mango Smoothie

This smoothie is a perfect blend of sweet mango, creamy yogurt, and a touch of sweetness, resulting in a refreshing and satisfying drink. It’s ideal for breakfast, a snack, or a light dessert.

Yields: 1 large serving or 2 smaller servings Prep time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (about 1 medium) ripe mango, peeled and chopped (Fresh or frozen. If using fresh, make sure it’s very ripe for maximum sweetness and flavor. If using frozen, you might need less ice or no ice at all.)
  • ½ cup plain yogurt (Greek yogurt for a thicker, protein-rich smoothie, or regular plain yogurt for a slightly lighter texture. Full-fat yogurt will yield a creamier result.)
  • ¼ cup milk (Dairy milk – whole, 2%, or skim – or a non-dairy alternative like almond milk, coconut milk, or oat milk, depending on your preference and dietary needs.)
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (or to taste) (Adjust based on the sweetness of your mango and your personal preference. You can also use agave nectar or a pitted date for natural sweetness.)
  • ½ cup ice cubes (optional, adjust as needed) (Use if your mango is fresh and you want a colder, thicker smoothie. If using frozen mango, you might not need any ice.)
  • Optional additions for extra flavor/nutrition:
    • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
    • A pinch of cardamom powder (pairs wonderfully with mango)
    • 1 scoop protein powder (vanilla or unflavored)
    • 1 tablespoon chia seeds or flax seeds (for added fiber and omega-3s)
    • A handful of spinach (you won’t taste it, but it adds nutrients!)

Equipment:

  • Blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Knife and cutting board (if using fresh mango)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Mango: If using fresh mango, peel it and chop it into roughly 1-inch pieces. If using frozen mango, you can use it directly from the freezer.
  2. Combine Ingredients in Blender: Add the chopped mango, plain yogurt, milk, and your chosen sweetener (honey or maple syrup) to your blender.
  3. Add Ice (if using): If your mango is fresh and you want a colder, thicker smoothie, add the ice cubes now. Start with ½ cup and add more later if you desire a thicker consistency.
  4. Add Optional Ingredients: If you’re using any of the optional additions like vanilla extract, cardamom, protein powder, or seeds, add them to the blender now.
  5. Blend Until Smooth: Secure the lid on your blender and blend on high speed until all ingredients are completely smooth and creamy. Start on a lower speed and gradually increase to high. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides of the blender with a spatula if the mixture is too thick.
  6. Check Consistency and Taste: Once blended, check the consistency. If it’s too thick, add a little more milk (1-2 tablespoons at a time) and blend again. If it’s too thin, add a few more ice cubes or a little more frozen mango and blend again. Taste the smoothie and adjust the sweetness if needed by adding more honey or maple syrup.
  7. Pour and Serve: Pour the creamy mango smoothie into a glass.
  8. Garnish (Optional): Garnish with a few fresh mango chunks on top, as shown in the picture, or a sprinkle of shredded coconut, or a mint leaf for an extra touch.
  9. Enjoy Immediately: Serve your delicious mango smoothie immediately for the best taste and texture.

Tips for Success:

  • Use Ripe Mango: The success of this smoothie heavily relies on the quality of your mango. Ripe mangoes are sweet and fragrant, requiring less added sweetener.
  • Frozen Mango is Key for Thickness: If you prefer a very thick, almost soft-serve consistency, use frozen mango. You might not need any ice if your mango is frozen.
  • Adjust Sweetness: Always taste and adjust the sweetness to your liking. Mangoes vary greatly in sweetness.
  • Experiment with Liquids: Feel free to experiment with different types of milk or even a splash of orange juice or coconut water for a slightly different flavor profile.
  • Batch Preparation: You can chop and freeze mango in advance for quick smoothie making.
  • Cleaning Your Blender: Clean your blender immediately after use to prevent dried-on residue.

Enjoy your homemade Creamy Tropical Mango Smoothie!
