Classic Potato Gratin Recipe
Ingredients:

2 lbs (900g) Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, thinly sliced

2 cups (500ml) heavy cream
-
1 cup (240ml) whole milk

2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 ½ cups (150g) Gruyère cheese, shredded (or a mix of Gruyère and Parmesan)

2 tbsp unsalted butter, for greasing
-
1 tsp salt
-
½ tsp black pepper
-
¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
-
Fresh thyme sprigs (for garnish)
Instructions:

Prep the Oven:

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or oven-safe skillet with butter.

Prepare Cream Mixture:

In a saucepan, heat the cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg over medium heat until warm (not boiling). Stir and set aside.

Assemble the Gratin:

Layer half of the potato slices in the dish, overlapping slightly.
-
Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes.

Sprinkle with half of the cheese.
-
Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.

Bake:

Cover loosely with foil and bake for 45 minutes.

Remove foil and bake an additional 20-25 minutes, until golden and bubbling.

Cool & Garnish:

Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Garnish with fresh thyme.
