baked potato

Ingredients:
Russet potatoes (as many as you need)
Olive oil or melted butter
Salt
Pepper
Optional Toppings:
Butter
Sour cream
Shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, etc.)
Chives or green onions
Bacon bits
Broccoli
Chili or beans
Any other favorite toppings
Instructions:
1. Prep the Potatoes:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Scrub the russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a towel.
Prick each potato a few times with a fork to allow steam to escape while baking.
2. Season the Potatoes:
Rub each potato with a little olive oil or melted butter to coat the skin. This will help create a crispy, flavorful skin.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. If you prefer, you can also add other seasonings, like garlic powder, paprika, or herbs.
3. Bake the Potatoes:
Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet lined with foil.
Bake for about 45-60 minutes, depending on the size of the potatoes. They are done when the skin is crispy and a fork or skewer easily slides into the center of the potato.
4. Check for Doneness:
To test for doneness, insert a fork or skewer into the center of the potato. It should slide in easily, and the potato should feel soft inside.
If the potato isn’t done yet, return it to the oven for 10-15 more minutes.
5. Serve:
Once baked, cut a slit down the center of each potato and gently squeeze the sides to fluff up the inside.
Top with your favorite toppings such as butter, sour cream, shredded cheese, chives, and bacon bits.
Tips:
For a crispy skin: If you want extra crispy skin, rub the potatoes with oil and salt, and bake them directly on the oven rack without foil.
Microwave method: If you’re short on time, you can microwave the potato instead. Prick it with a fork, microwave on high for about 5-7 minutes per side, flipping halfway through. However, the skin won’t be as crispy as oven-baked potatoes.
Enjoy your perfectly baked potato!
