Grandma’s Cinnamon Sugar Sweet Bread (Tastes Like a Donut!)
This simple, cozy sweet bread was a family favorite passed down from my mom’s grandma. With the warm flavors of cinnamon and sugar, and a buttery soft texture, this bread is like a comforting hug in every bite—reminiscent of a cinnamon sugar donut.
Ingredients
For the Bread:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs
1 cup whole milk (or buttermilk for a tangy twist)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat the oven
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
Mix the dry ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
Mix the wet ingredients
In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter, eggs, milk (or buttermilk), and vanilla extract. Stir until well blended.
Combine wet and dry ingredients
Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—the batter should be slightly lumpy.
Pour into the pan
Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
Bake
Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
If the top begins to brown too quickly, tent the bread with aluminum foil during the last 10–15 minutes.
Add cinnamon sugar topping
While the bread is still warm, brush the top with melted butter.
Mix the sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle generously over the buttered top.
Cool and serve
Let the bread cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then remove and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Slice and enjoy warm or at room temperature!
Tips & Variations
Add-ins: Try mixing in chopped nuts, raisins, or mini chocolate chips for extra flavor.
Storage: Wrap tightly and store at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze slices individually for a quick treat anytime.
Double the topping if you’re a big cinnamon sugar fan—it’s the best part!
